Mixed Media Retreat

Thursday April 27 – Sunday April 30, 2017
Cambria, California

Sorry Registration is Closed

Envision With Me…

Imagine spending a weekend escaping the routine of daily life, to a small quiet town near the ocean. You re-connect to your inner artist as you explore your creativity, immerse in the art of Mixed Media. As you walk along the beach, gathering found objects for your artwork, you soak in the soothing melody of the ocean, you feel rejuvenated. Surrounded by other fellow creatives, you experience a creative kinship, inspired by what others are creating. In an environment that is supportive and encouraging, you feel free to explore, be spontaneous and just play. You are surprised at what unfolds in front of you and what you end up creating. The weekend is a gift, as it awakens your true creativity within.

Join me on a weekend experience geared towards nourishing and uncovering your inner artist. Through the art of mixed media you will learn how to trust your creative intuition, learn a variety of mixed media techniques and be amazed at what you can create.

You not only spend 3 days creating your own mixed media pieces, the weekend will also include the following:

• Found objects gathering at Moonstone Beach
• Creativity enhancing yoga breaks (optional)
• Silent Creating Sessions
• Lunches (Friday, Saturday & Sunday)
• Snacks & Drinks
• All art materials
• Henna Tattoos…and more

Creating Promotes Wellbeing

I believe when we connect to our creativity without judgment, expectations and the need for our art to be perfect, we draw from a deep resource and connect to our creative intuition. This can lead to a sense of inner wholeness as well as open up our creativity.

Taking time to honor your creative spirit is just as essential to your wellbeing as a good nights rest, exercise and eating right. It provides benefits both spiritually and mentally. Doing any sort of creative practice whether it’s writing, dancing, crafts can be meditative and stress reducing. It’s an activity that can ground us in our daily life.

Mixed media is the perfect avenue to achieve this.

Creating with Mixed Media

During the weekend you will be working on two pieces (one 12 x 12 in. & one 12 x 16 in. wood panel) where you will have the opportunity to combine collage, your own photography, acrylic painting, layering, different mixed media techniques, found objects and more.

I take you step-by-step in the process of creating your artwork with a variety of mixed media techniques. I also coach you through the creative process so you don’t feel intimidated when exploring your own creativity.

Mixed Media Art is the ideal medium to explore your creative side without the pressure of having to be artistic or create a perfect piece of art. You’re free to experiment and be spontaneous in whatever you create. During the process we invite accidents or mistakes to happen, while finding beauty in the imperfections.

All levels of experience are welcome!

This weekend workshop is for all levels of art experience. You will need to bring a digital camera with a removable SD card or USB connector that takes good quality photos. All materials are provided. Bring your creative spirit. Adult ages 18+

Physical requirement: Please be aware a small portion of the weekend will require the ability to walk down a short hill to get to the beach, walk on sand and bend over to pick up found objects.

I cannot imagine a more thoughtful, generous, encouraging (not to mention talented) teacher – and one that so clearly recognizes that the thing so many of us struggle with is how to get to the destination, as uncomfortable and surprising as it might be and still enjoy the journey. That understanding comes across so clearly in Lisa’s classes. She really has a wonderful way of balancing gentle guidance with a wholehearted encouragement just to play and have fun and even take chances.

Lisa is the most gifted art teacher I have ever met! It is difficult to describe her method of teaching because it is so unique. She creates a truly safe, serene, calm, non-judgmental, kind environment where a student can find their “inner artist.” In a very gentle way, Lisa’s background as both a therapist and professional artist, combine to bring out what is best in each student. Her classes are more than art classes–they have helped me tremendously to be a more self-compassionate and less self-critical. I’ve discovered artistic abilities I thought I did not have. I have learned so much as a result of her intuitive style of teaching–even in non-representational art there is a form and structure that impact the meaning of a work of art. I am a better and happier person for taking Lisa’s classes!
