Envision With Me…

Imagine…arriving at a small quaint town on the coast, escaping the routine of daily life. The ocean air and serene atmosphere immediately calms you. You reconnect with your inner artist as you explore the art of mixed media. Walking along the beach, gathering found objects for your artwork, you are rejuvenated by the soothing melody of the waves. Surrounded by fellow creatives, you experience a kinship and inspiration by what others are creating without the pressure of having to be artistic. In a supportive and encouraging environment, you feel free to explore, be spontaneous and just play. Surprised at what intuitively unfolds in front of you…a creation that encapsulates your authentic creative expression. The weekend is a gift to yourself, as it awakens your true creativity within.

Lisa, thank you so much for the wonderful Mixed Media Retreat in Cambria. Aside from being the best retreat experience I’ve ever had, I learned not only some amazing art techniques, but also a lot about myself with regards to the creative process. With your kind, generous, non-judgmental and expert guidance, I was able to push through a  wall of self-doubt that I faced during the weekend, but I came out on the other side with renewed self-confidence and creative energy. I can’t wait to do it again!!!

Creating Promotes Wellbeing

I believe when we connect to our creativity without judgment, expectations and the need for our art to be perfect, we draw from a deep resource and connect to our creative intuition. This can lead to a sense of inner wholeness as well as open up our creativity.

Taking time to honor your creative spirit is just as essential to your wellbeing as a good nights rest, exercise and eating right. It provides benefits both spiritually and mentally. Doing any sort of creative practice whether it’s writing, dancing, crafts can be meditative and stress reducing. It’s an activity that can ground us in our daily life.

Mixed media is the perfect avenue to achieve this.

Creating with Mixed Media – What to Expect

As a kid we have access to this natural gateway into creativity. Finger painting becomes a limitless blend of shapes and colors. We spontaneously create with little concern for the end product, lost in creative bliss. However, over time as we are pressured to adapt to expectations we lose touch with that free flowing process.

True Creativity comes from reconnecting and tapping into our intuition, surrendering to the present moment, letting go of expectations and allowing yourself to be guided by your inner artist. Mixed Media Art is the ideal medium to explore your creative side without the pressure of having to be artistic or create a perfect piece of art. You’re free to experiment and be spontaneous in whatever you create. During the process we invite accidents or mistakes to happen, while finding beauty in the imperfections.

In the beginning of the retreat I will take you through a painting exercise designed to help you get past over thinking, be more courageous and open you up to a free flow of creativity. We will also do some journaling exercises that will help to quiet those voices or perceptions that get in the way of your full creative expression.

I will then take you step-by-step in the process of creating your artwork with a variety of mixed media applications. During the weekend you will be working on multiple pieces where you will have the opportunity to combine collage, fabric, acrylic painting, layering, found objects and more.

Creative Blocks

The creative process typically consist of hills and valleys. Rarely is it a smooth sailing road. Actually it’s common when you immerse yourself in the creative process  to hit a wall, where you feel frustrated, insecure or doubtful about what you’re creating. Having been there myself many times before, I know how it feels to be stuck. Because of my personal experience with the creative process as well as my Creativity Coaching background, I can genuinely say, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. During these few days, I will coach you on how to get passed those blocks should you find yourself hitting a bump in the road during the retreat.

Materials & Requirements

Materials: All art materials will be provided. Feel free to bring your own paint brushes if you have a preference and bring your creative spirit.

Physical requirement: Please be aware a small portion of the weekend will require the ability to walk down a short hill to get to the beach, walk on sand and bend over to pick up found objects.

All levels of experience are welcome! Adults 21+

Lisa’s True Creativity Within retreat was simply the best art immersion I’ve experienced in years.  It was just the right blend of learning, exploring, creating, and collaborating and every detail was thoughtfully and lovingly planned to make the three days enjoyable and rewarding.  I’ll be signing up for the next session!

Lisa is the most gifted art teacher I have ever met! It is difficult to describe her method of teaching because it is so unique. She creates a truly safe, serene, calm, non-judgmental, kind environment where a student can find their “inner artist.” In a very gentle way, Lisa’s background as both a therapist and professional artist, combine to bring out what is best in each student. Her classes are more than art classes–they have helped me tremendously to be a more self-compassionate and less self-critical. I’ve discovered artistic abilities I thought I did not have. I have learned so much as a result of her intuitive style of teaching–even in non-representational art there is a form and structure that impact the meaning of a work of art. I am a better and happier person for taking Lisa’s classes!

The workshop was just amazing and very well organized with attention to details. Lisa made us feel more than comfortable to bring out our creative best. The field trip to Moonstone Beach was the perfect thing that was needed to get inspired and gather the positive energy to start off the work. The instructions given by Lisa during demo were clear and her teaching was very structured. She did provoke our own individuality in decision making and guided through with positivity. She was extremely encouraging and urged us to make mistakes and take risks. Only then I could drop my inhibitions and become more spontaneous. The yoga sessions by Terri were tailored towards relaxing and opening up our minds to new possibilities which helped the creative process. I produced 2 beautiful works in mixed media which I can be proud of. Jen, who helped Lisa was equally warm and her henna skills need special mention. Henna being part of the workshop was a fun addition.

For me, it was worth the trip to Cambria from the Bay Area and India (as I live in India). I am extremely happy that I did it and wish that I can keep going back to her retreats/workshops.

– Neetu, Cambria Retreat 2017

In 2015, during one of my many visits to Cambria, while walking along Moonstone Beach, an idea came to me. I had drawn inspiration from this specially little town for my own artwork. The found objects from Moonstone Beach, escaping to a destination and the calm that comes from being near the ocean, a catalyst for freeing up my creativity. I wanted to share the same experience with others. Thus, the vision to do a retreat began to unfold. Each retreat since then has been a success and continues to become more and more magical. I’m looking forward to sharing one of my favorite forms of art in one of my favorite places in California. I hope you will join me for a weekend of inspiration, creativity and rejuvenation. For more information on the details simply click the registration button and it will take you to a separate registration page. Hope to see you in Cambria!
