What is Creative Spirit?

Creative Spirit can mean different things. It can refer to a person who simply lives life as a creative spirit, and has this natural need to express oneself artistically and creatively.

It can also represent being creatively inspired or having creative inspiration.

Creative Spirit can also be referred to as a higher power beyond ourselves. It may be from the universe, God, energy, our Spirit Guides or the Divine. By some magical way leading and directing our creative process.

It can be considered our inner guidance, our instinct or intuition.

I believe Creative Spirit is all these things. It is a gift we already possess simply because we are human. It is something we are all inherently born with.

In other words, Creative Spirit is part of our DNA. It was there to inspire early humans to make the first marks in the sand and build monuments to honor their Gods. Creative Spirit was the intuitive drive to paint on the walls of caves so they could make sense of their world.

Whatever it represents to you, I believe Creative Spirit has always been there waiting for us to connect to it. Therefore, we don’t have to be naturally artistic or creatively talented to tap into this natural source. We don’t have to go to art school or even know how to draw in order to utilize Creative Spirit.

The challenge is limiting beliefs, creative injuries of the past, society’s definition of “creative” and our own self-judgment. All these can block our connection to Creative Spirit.

When given the right guidance, supportive environment and permission, anyone can tap into Creative Spirit.

When we are fully present during the creative process, letting go of control, surrendering to not knowing, and accepting what is naturally unfolding, there is a timelessness and a flow.

We bypass the overthinking, self-judgement and doubt. We experience an openness and expansion of our creativity, a freedom to create effortlessly.

This is when we are connected to Creative Spirit and we simply follow its lead. We get out of the way so Creative Spirit can reveal the amazing creative being that we are and the ability to live a more whole and centered life.

The science behind
the Creative Process

I know for some people Creative Spirit may sound New Age or mystical, but there is actually a science behind this. Recent research in neuroscience recognized that the creative process doesn’t just happen on the right side of the brain. Instead, it is a back and forth dance between both hemispheres, the blending of both linear and intuitive thinking simultaneously. It’s the ability to hold contradicting elements during the creative process. This process produces a sense of groundedness and a feeling of well-being.
